We ranked every McDonald's in Montana. The best one is in Billings.

Anyone who's done a road trip through Montana knows the rhythm: hours of nothing, then a billboard, then a McDonald's. We pulled every one of them via the maps endpoint, 32 locations, sprinkled across 9 metros and a handful of highway towns. The state-wide rating average is ★ 3.4 (right around the McDonald's global mean of 3.5).

The single-store winner is 2333 Central Ave in Billings (★ 3.8), narrowly beating 3.7s on Grand Ave (Billings), Prospect Ave (Helena), and Montana Ave (Helena). The single-store loser, by a clear margin, is 8745 U.S. Hwy 93 N in Missoula (★ 2.7). Worth noting it also has the fewest reviews of any store in the state (417), so the rating may still be settling, but it's currently a full star below the next-worst.

The city-level picture is sharper: Helena tops the per-city average at ★ 3.65, with both its stores above 3.5. Missoula sits at the bottom of the metros at ★ 3.24, dragged down by that Hwy 93 outlier (only lone-store Miles City rates lower, at ★ 3.10). If you're road-tripping Montana and the McDonald's matters: stop in Helena.
