Add Local SEO Data to VS Code

VS Code asks you to confirm, then signs you in with your Local SEO Data account the first time Copilot uses it.

Or add it yourself

  1. Run MCP: Add Server from the Command Palette and choose HTTP.
  2. Paste https://mcp.localseodata.com/mcp and name it localseodata.

Or put this in .vscode/mcp.json:

{
  "servers": {
    "localseodata": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.localseodata.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Open Copilot Chat in agent mode to use it. On Copilot Business and Enterprise, an admin has to turn on the "MCP servers in Copilot" policy first.

Using an API key instead

{
  "inputs": [
    { "type": "promptString", "id": "lsd-key", "description": "Local SEO Data API key", "password": true }
  ],
  "servers": {
    "localseodata": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.localseodata.com/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${input:lsd-key}" }
    }
  }
}

VS Code asks for the key once and stores it securely. You'll find your API key in the API Keys dashboard. It starts with sk_live_.

Check it works

Ask: "What's my Local SEO Data balance?" That calls the free get_balance tool, so it costs nothing and shows the connection is live. Then try a real question, like "Who are the top 3 on Google Maps for plumbers in Denver?" Most answers cost 2 to 10 credits, and new accounts start with 100.
